Listed below are lots of ways that parents can join in on the fun & volunteer for the PTC throughout the school year!

 

One-Time Volunteer Opportunities - 1 to 2 Hours

Family Activities

  • An opportunity for working parents.
  • Most activities are held at night.

Hospitality

  • An opportunity for working parents.
  • Luncheons for teachers.
  • Cook a dish or help serve during the luncheon.
  • Staffing the event is a 1 to 2 hour commitment.

Mayrathon

  • Held during the school day in May.
  • Help set up/clean up, hand out water, and most importantly... you get to see your child and friends run!

Springfest

  • An opportunity for working parents.
  • One night family carnival occurs in the spring.
  • Help staff booths, activity tables, set up/clean up, serve food, run the cake-walk.

Curriculum Enrichment

  • Bring outside performers, authors, scientists to Newman to supplement classroom curriculum.
  • “Host” an event- during school hours - you can do this once or sign up for multiple events.

Understanding Different Abilities (UDA)

  • Help with an activity station during one of our grade-level workshops during the school day.
  • To help, Sign Up Genius forms are included in weekly newsletters prior to each event, and are emailed to each grade level.

Recurring Volunteer Opportunities - Time Varies

Media Volunteers

  • During your child’s media time, you will volunteer one hour every week or every other week throughout the whole school year.
  • You will assist your child’s class with book choices as well as help the library staff re-shelve books and other tasks.
  • Sign-ups occur in September.

Room Parents

  • An opportunity for working parents.
  • Relay information from the PTC via email to classroom parents.
  • Coordinate Spring Fest baskets, teacher gifts, etc…
  • Sign up occurs in mid-September.

Safe Routes to School

  • Help out once a month at the walk to school events.
  • Time is 8:30 to 9:00am in the front courtyard of the school.
  • Count walkers, distribute prizes and hand out cider!
  • Could be a one-time opportunity as well.

Committee Volunteering Opportunities

You may choose to join a committee. Each committee is run differently but they usually have scheduled meetings throughout the school year. You can participate as much or as little as you’d like. For any committee specific volunteer questions, please contact the committee representative(s).

Fundraising

  • An opportunity for working parents.
  • Commit as much or as little time as you’d like.  
  • Any ideas and enthusiasm in the planning and execution of various fundraising events throughout the year are welcome.

5th Grade Activities

  • Coordinate fun activities for the 5th grade class (talent show, BBQ, Field day, etc…) throughout the year.

Kindergarten Committee

  • An opportunity for working parents
  • Help coordinate events for Kindergartners and families throughout the year.
  • Committee contact information: kindergarten@newmanptc.org

New Families Committee

  • Help coordinate welcome activities at the beginning of the year and possibly throughout the year as new families arrive at Newman.
  • Committee contact information: newfamilies@newmanptc.org

Yearbook

  • 2 parent volunteers/grade to take pictures at events.
  • Events could occur during the day or night.
  • Time commitment is around 1 to 2 hours per event.
  • Volunteers also needed to sort through pictures to make sure each child is represented in the yearbook. This may take more time but can be done at your home.

Understanding Different Abilities (UDA)

  • Help with one of the grade-level curriculum teams to update and implement classroom workshops.
  • Help with overall program leadership and the coordination of Newman's program with those offered at the other Needham elementary schools.
