Started October 7, International Walk to School Day

This is a walking program for everyone, created so that all students can participate in the energizing fun of Green Kids’ walks.

Here’s how the program works:

1. Kids log their walking/biking/scootering trips.  Blank logs can be downloaded from the PTC website.  For hands that are:
      Little:     log for little hands
Bigger:    log for big hands (saves paper)
Eco-friendly tip: print on the blank side of a used sheet of paper.

2. A trip is a walk or bike ride (that replaces a car trip) to a destination.  Some examples are:
A. Walking/biking to and from school.
B. Walking to your bus stop or the next bus stop.
C. Walking/biking to a friend’s house or the playground.
D. Walking/biking to the train station or T bus stop.
E. Parking and walking: parents park their car along the route and then everybody walks the last few blocks to the final destination (i.e. soccer practice, restaurant, ice cream, church or temple). Challenge: increase the distance over time!

3. Parents sign and date the bottom of the log after kids have completed 25 trips.  Kids deposit their completed logs in the tray/box in the front lobby labeled
…and are ready to start a new log!

4. Submitted trips will be recorded weekly by grade and graphed for all to see in the lobby.  Which grade will walk the most each week?  Listen and watch for the announcements!  Let’s keep walking all year long to keep the totals high.

5. Our Newman school goal is to complete the globe mosaic that will be in the front lobby by next Spring.  Squares will be added based on the total of trips taken.  The more everyone walks/bikes/scooters, the faster the globe will take shape!!

Are you having a hard time getting motivated to fill out your walking log?  You will now be rewarded for all your "trips!"  Hand in your log sheet and receive a jelly bracelet for all your walking efforts!!
